Goal: $1600.00
Raised: $50.00
The Need
Worldwide, more than 15 million have been orphaned by HIV & AIDS…11 million of these children live in Africa.
In rural Malawi, the situation for children is especially dire.
Malawi has an extremely high prevalence of HIV & AIDS, which affects an estimated 16% of the population aged 15 to 49 and accounts for about 70% of all hospital deaths. Half a million children in Malawi are AIDS-orphans and many are now cared for by relatives who are already under severe economic hardships.
Project
Help support Community-Based Childcare Centres (CBCCCs) in Malawi and provide AIDS-orphans and vulnerable children with a brighter future
The Cost
$1600.00 - provide educational supplies, bicycles, dishes and toys
The Result
More than one million children in Africa have been orphaned by HIV & AIDS….
As part of CPAR’s overall efforts to support a healthier and more sustainable future for families affected by HIV & AIDS, we have built more than 30 Community-Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs).
At these centres, orphans and other vulnerable children receive care, food and early education – helping to ensure a future unencumbered by the burden of HIV and poverty that too often occurs.
With the children being cared for by volunteers throughout the day, parents and grandparents who care for orphans are free to work – growing food and earning incomes for their families.
CPAR CBCCs are need of some of the following materials: slates, blackboard erasers, chalk, markers, pencils, crayons, wall clocks, picture books, exercise books, dolls/toys, English text books, alphabet charts, flip charts, dishes and a bicycle.
These supplies are important as so the centre can provide more than just daycare for the children by helping them to prepare for school and to start an effective early-learning program.
Help us to build this brighter future for AIDS-affected children.
