The Need
Through the promotion of energy-saving stove technology in rural Ethiopia, CPAR has empowered communities with the knowledge and skills to use innovative techniques that have a smaller ecological footprint.
Energy saving stoves enable women to continue to meet their family's household needs while having less of an impact on precious environmental resources such as land and trees.
Project
Help us reach our goal to provide 300 households with energy saving stoves. Constructing Energy Saving Stoves in Jarso, Ethiopia
The Cost
$2100.00 - provides 300 households with energy-saving stoves
The Result
Fuel-efficient stoves are benefiting communities as well as the environment. The stoves have a larger capacity for cooking local dishes and can be powered on less fuel wood than traditional stoves.
- The stoves lessen the burden of deforestation by consuming 1/3 less fuelwood and producing 50% less smoke.
- The stoves' larger capacity cuts down on cooking time for women – leaving them with more time for other tasks.
- As a result of consuming less fuel wood, the stoves release less smoke and therefore reduce potentially hazardous smoke emissions as well as the incidence of accidental fires.
- The stoves serve as a light source for rural households without electricity or kerosene lamps, allowing kids to study at night in their homes.
Energy-saving stoves enable families to continue to meet their own needs while: reducing the amount of time that women spend on household chores, limiting indoor air pollution and its negative health effects - while lessening the impact on precious environmental resources such as land and trees.
