Help build access to water

The Need

Extreme flooding this past year, has put returning-IDP (internally displaced person) communities in Northern Uganda, Pader District (Omot and Puranga sub-counties) at risk for contracting cholera and hepatitis E – two communicable diseases which have caused epidemics in recent months.

Excessive flooding in the area caused contaminated water to pool into swamps and marshes and cause surface water contamination.

Proper handwashing is one of the most effective ways of preventing the spread of waste and water borne diseases while promoting and maintaining safe hygiene environments, especially at a household level.

The distribution of handwashing stands for the community, accompanied by positive hygiene and sanitation behaviour training will drastically diminish the instances of water/waste bourne disease which has been known to cause critical illness or even death.

Project

Provide access to 100 household handwashing stands to reduce the risk of cholera and hepatitis-E for at-risk communities in Northern Uganda.

The Cost

$2000.00 - to provide 100 households with critical handwashing stands.

The Result

In response to these immediate community needs, CPAR has distributed hundreds of handwashing stands to community households to reduce exposure to contaminated waste, communicable diseases and unhygienic conditions.

CPAR is working hard to ensure that households can have access to a safe and healthy environment and reduce the risk of illness and disease.
